ABSTRACT:

This study research productivity and degree of collaboration in Indian journal of Information Sources and Services during 2013-2017. For the study data were downloaded and collected from www.trp.org.in/ijiss. In this study distribution of articles, references distribution, country-wise articles contributions, page length of articles contributions, institution wise research contributions, authorship patterns, single and multi authors contributions, degree of collaboration and most productive authors. The study has found that the contributions of research articles to Indian journal of Information Sources and Services were not only from in India but also from foreign countries. For the analysis of the study 03-07 volumes containing 10 issues and 90 research articles have been taken up. The maximum number of research articles 25 (27.77%) articles was published in 2014. The average degree of collaboration is 0.788.

“Suriya (2010) analyzed the study mostly the publication performance of the 53 countries both from the developing and developed world is attempted to observe the share of various continents, countries and institutions in the production of publications in the subject sociology.”[1].

“Manivannan and Sanjeevi (2011) studied the research publications in the field of Medical Research are increasing year by year. In this paper the authors have studied bibliometrics analysis of the Indian Journal of Medical Research [IJMR] for the period of five years between 2007 and 2011.”[2].

“Shonkar and Shankarappa (2016) results of a study are to analysis the bibliometric analysis of articles published during the period of 2009- 2015 by University of Horticultural Sciences, Bagalkot, Karnataka, India was undertaken, to reveal the year wise distribution of articles, citations, types of publications, prolific authors, preferred journals, authorship pattern and degree of collaboration.” [3].

“Sonkar and other (2017) had done a study of Points the study covers the total numbers of articles, authorship pattern, subject wise classification of the contributions, degree of collaboration, subject wise distribution of articles, country wise classification, distribution of citations by volume, institute wise distribution of articles, length of the articles, author wise citations in the articles, compositions of citations etc. The study founded that each year the journal has distinguished of papers except the year 2010, In the context of authorship pattern the result shows that two-authored papers are in highest with 37% (77 papers) in the whole period (2005-2014), Average rate of degree of collaboration is 2.8, The journal information technology and people is enriched with the scholarly contribution of 25.6% countries across the world among these 25.6% countries like USA, UK, Australia, Finland, Canada, etc, The result shows that documentary materials are cited in maximum number (3881, [31%]) than non-documentary materials  (8437[68%]) during the period of 2006 to 2015.” [4].

4. METHODOLOGY OF THE STUDY:

This bibliometrics is the application of statistical and mathematical methods. A total of 3-7 volumes and 10 issues were selected for the study. It is based on Statistical and mathematical analysis with differentt aspect of books and articles such as country-wise distribution, cited documents, authorship pattern, degree of collaboration. etc. Data have been also calculated and represented in varies Tables and Graph.

Degree of Collaboration among authors in Indian journal of Information Sources and Services from 2013 to 2017 is presented in table 8.

Calculate in order to the degree of collaboration (DC) among the authors in Indian journal of Information Sources and Services journal, the formula given by K. Subramanyam (1983) is used, the formula is as follows –

DC = Degree of Collaboration

Nm = Number of multi-authored Contributions

Ns = Number of single-authored Contributions

The value of DC = (Nm)/(Nm+Ns)”[5].

In the present study, here – Nm = 71; Ns = 19.

71/71+19 so that

71/90 = 0.788

Table 8 shows the degree of collaboration is high, i.e. 71 (0.788%) in terms of collective or multi-authored Collaboration and the individual or single-authored contributions is less towards the subject during the study period.

7. CONCLUSION:

This journal Indian journal of Information Sources and Services has a history of five years. In this period of time published 90 articles from 2013-2017. Table 1 Show that distribution of articles in the 2013 to 2017. The maximum 25 (27.77%) articles published in the year 2014. The minimum 14 (15.55%) articles published in the year 2015 and 2016. The Percentages range varies from 15.55% to 27.77 %. Table 2 Reveals  that maximum number of references 326 (27.81%) produced in 2014, followed by 253 (21.58%) references in 2017, 219(18.68%) references in 2015, 212(18.08%) references in 2013 and 162(13.82%) references in 2016. Table 3 Indicates that country-wise articles contributions in volume 3-7 of source journal.
